Who we are – Chris and Carol Mason are the heart core of this family owned and run business, helped by a team of local staff. Hill Farm apple juice has been pressed and bottled on the site since the 1970’s as part of a substantial fruit farm supplying apples and pears to the supermarkets; we are now a separate business so we can focus on getting the juice just right.
Where we are – Hill Farm is located in the heart of the Hampshire Downs about 8 miles from Winchester; here there is a micro-climate which (conveniently) is beneficial to the growing of excellent apples and pears. A perfect spot for juice- making, and lovely to live in too.
How good we are – now, being rather English, we don’t like to shout too loudly about this, but we have won the odd award. Most recently Hill Farm Apple Juice won Two Star Gold in the 2010 Taste Awards for Hill Farm Cloudy Apple and has twice been Hampshire Life Drinks Producer of the Year. But really you need to taste it and judge for yourselves.
We are also proud to be a part of Hampshire Fare – a network of the best local and independent producers of food, drink and craft in the county.
How you can get your hands on it – Our apple juice is available in good farm shops and independent food shops in Hampshire, Dorset Surrey and Sussex and also in the local foods section of your neighbourhood Southern Cooperative. (link to map if created)
We also attend Hampshire Farmers’ Markets throughout the year. Or you can order here on the site.
You can also drink Hill Farm Apple Juice at many lovely free-houses and restaurants throughout the area.
How Our Apple Juice is Made
Hand picked fruit is brought in from the orchards and any apples found to be ‘ unsound’ are carefully removed. If you wouldn’t eat it then it doesn’t go in the juice! Each type of apple is juiced and bottled separately to allow the distinctive flavours to be retained, apart from Cox and Bramley which we find work rather well blended together – just the right balance of rounded sweetness and sharp tartness. You can find out about the different flavours and what might suit your palate on the juice range page.
The apples are crushed and gently pressed on-site to extract the juice. The juice is flash pasteurised before being immediately bottled to lock in the orchard-fresh taste.
There are no additives except for ascorbic acid (vitamin C) which is used as an anti-oxidant. This is added otherwise the juice might turn a little brown – just like when you cut up an apple.
